Last night the soulful Maynard Mills Blues Band graced the Outlook, and for the blues purists among us, it was truly gratifying. Mr. Mills possesses an authoritative command over whichever guitar he decides to pick up, and coupled with his clear vocals and those of his two band mates, the blues lives strong. Do try and see this band the next time they visit us.
Tonight promises to be fun-filled. Very fun-filled, with Ray Smith and Phat Chants and all the variety they bring to music. Tonight won’t be so much about the blues, but it will be about exuberance. Ray Smith is used to his solos being applauded, and more instant gratification for the audience. After an evening, however, the audience has learned Smith is also a proficient singer/songwriter with songs covering the emotion gamut. With his fellow Phat Chants, Smith and the boys illustrate how to enjoy music. And we shall.
Tomorrow night, Saturday, Oct. 6th at 7:30, The Jenn Cleary Band, will be in the house. Jenn will be joined by Doug Moldawsky on lead guitar and Mad Dog on the harp, both talented songwriters in there own right. This trio of creativity brings some great original music to the Outlook in the style of acoustic rock and blues, combined with some good ol' familiar cover tunes. As is stated on her web site, “Female Blues Artist, Jenn Cleary's thoughtful reflection in her eclectic songwriting combines with her fun-loving musical performance to engage listeners in a funky celebration of breaking out and letting go. This collection journeys through Jenn Cleary's diverse music styles, from sweet acoustic to beat drivin' rock and roll.” We are very fortunate to have yet another local group with such talent and soulfulness right here in Boulder! Should be a great show, so join us as we welcome the former Bostonian to Boulder’s number one blues club.
Next week, beginning Thursday night we have, in order, Sammy See, Zebra Junction, and The Shaman, followed by a Blues Jam with Lionel Young and Mark Diamond on Sunday night. Grab your guitars!
We’ll be profiling Zebra Junction more in depth next week, and they carry quite the history. Until then, see you at the Outlook!
