The above address is THE place to be!  Thanks to our technological genius, Vanessa Combs, "Broads on Blues" (B.o.B.) is now viewable in complete, hour-long, uninterrupted videos.  We just filmed our second live show this past Sunday, and it's GREAT!  If I do say so myself.  Well, it's great because of all the luminaries we managed to bamboozle, er, um, persuade to talk to us.  Or even be seen with us.

So instead of reading this week, you should be watching.

But first, a little recap.  Last Thursday the Johnny O Band returned, and the dancing was immediate and sustained.  Most of the chairs were empty, not due to lack of attendance, but rather a very crowded dance floor.  Always is with this trio.  I also recorded "Crescent City People," an original about what has been allowed to happen to New Orleans, and we'll be airing that on B.o.B. soon.

Saturday night Ms. Delish and her boys brought it!  Of course, The Erica Brown Band always bring it.  It was also Erica's sister's birthday, so we all got to "sit in" with Erica on "Happy Birthday."  Now I get to say I've sat in with Ms. Delish.  Oh, so what if it's a giant stretch!  It's still true!

Tomorrow night we have Sammy Dee, another act that gets the dancers on their feet.  Sammy's polished guitar work coupled with that Johnny Cash-esque voice, marks him as one our truest bluesmen.  We're lucky to call him "neighbor."

Friday night The Maynard Mills Band returns, and I've very excited about this.  I have a sentimental connection with this band.  Let me explain (although by the time I'm done, you might wish I hadn't):  I haven't seen them at the Outlook since late last summer.  On that night, my good friend, Amy Leiberman, and I decided we needed some blues, and headed to the Outlook.  As we pulled in, we noticed a few dozen men decked out in fly-fishing gear.  Ok.  That's new, I thought.  Turns out there was a big national fly-fishing competition all around the Front Range, and many competitors were staying at the hotel.

Anyhoo, Amy and I park and approach the gentlemen sitting outside, you know, just being polite.  I had only recently begun my promotional activities for Dan, and seeing that there weren't a lot of asses in seats, I decided to try and convince the fishermen that they needed to end a hard day's fishing with some great music.  So we sat down, asked polite questions, and then asked if they wanted to listen to some great blues, etc.  One guy started getting nervous, darting glances of concern to his buddies, and even went so far as to ascertain the exact location of his wallet, and proceed to further secure it's safety.   You know where this is going, don't you?  Oh, and keep in mind, Amy was in a brace from her thigh to her ankle (long story.  No really, long story).

Well, the leg brace had apparently cut off Amy's body-language radar.  She just kept talking, very charmingly of course, not noticing the shift in mood.  For her own dignity, I hustled (pun intended) her into the bar the minute the music started.  We sat down, ordered, then I lost it, with the tears-rolling-down-my-face kind of laughter, the uncontrollable kind.  Amy kept trying to get it out of me, but I said, "After the set."  I knew when I told her, her reaction would interrupt the gentlemen on stage, and no matter how involuntary, it would still be rude to them.

Maynard Mills tore that guitar up, and the band was great.  We both had early a.m. appointments, so we could only stay for the first set.  When we got outside, well, it went like this:

AMY:  What?!?

HONEY:  They thought we were hookers!

AMY:  INVOLUNTARY CONVULSIONS OF

LAUGHTER

So that's my sweet, sentimental memory with the Maynard Mills Band.  I don't have a sentimental story about Phat Chants, so I'll be there Saturday night in hopes of creating one.  You busy, Amy?

Now, I know this is short, but you need to go watch the July 6th B.o.B.  It has, Steady Rollin', tons of Jason Ricci and New Blood, Larry Garner and Zac Harmon, and even a guest appearance from Chip Eagle, publisher of Blues Revue magazine and  BluesWax.  I'm just saying it's a really good show.  Jill looks really pretty and is sporting some serious cleavage.

MEMO TO DAN

Dear Dan,

Regarding that guitarist you might be able to book in September; if you don't, I'll throw a temper tantrum that will make 2-year-olds stand up and applaud!  Don't test me.

Tempestuously yours,

Honeybee (it's the informal version of my official blues name, Honey Bee)

Dear Honey:

Count to 10...I was too late to get this act booked.  But the agent still likes me and has me on his list.

Sorry

Dan
