IT’S A SNOW BLUES DAY

Sometimes I just crack myself up! “Snow Blues Day!” Come on people, that’s funny!
Ok, maybe just to me.

First a bit of business. We had a very moving service/jam for John-Alex Mason this past Sunday, with more than twenty musicians lending their time and talent to say a fitting farewell to John-Alex. And one of those generous musicians left a black bag of guitar strings. Contact Scotty at the Outlook to claim them.

Very soon, I’ll have much more to report about what that touching evening started. Soon.

Tonight the very talented (and pretty) Jack Hadley is back, so bring some biscuits to wipe up the butter of his voice. Tomorrow night, Papa Juke is having a CD Release Party, and I understand they are really ready for this, so it’s going to be a barnburner.

Sammy Dee returns Saturday night, so come out for your taste of Louisiana.

Our regularly scheduled Blues Jam on Tuesday will be on hiatus as we have an election party, hopefully celebrating Dan’s election to Boulder City Council! The Mighty Twisters will be twisting the night away for us. Here’s a little more: “The festivities get underway around 5:30 PM.  The Mighty Twisters will play for your listening and dancing pleasure beginning at 8:00 PM.  I’m the bass player.  We play a mix of rock, pop, reggae, ska, blues, R&B…anything fun and danceable.   The Outlook is also offering a very inexpensive room rate for anyone who wants to stay the night.  Hope to see you there!”

Now I want to give you a few reminders: Nov. 9th, Samantha Fish! Nov. 11th Lil Red and Big Bad with our very own WILLIE PANKER and special guest, international saxophone star, Jimmy Carpenter (speaking of pretty)! They’re out of New Orleans, and advanced to the semi finals in Memphis this past February. No. 25th, Otis Taylor and Bob Margolin! Nov. 30th MY GIRL, yes, that’s right, MY GIRL, Ms. Candye Kane (I break out in huge grins just at the thought of seeing and hearing her again)! Dec. 7th, Mike Zito! Jan. 6th, Hamilton Loomis! Jan. 25th, Trampled Under Foot! I think I’ve broken the exclamation point key on my keyboard...Who cares, they’re all worth it.

I’m going to leave you this week with some thoughts about John-Alex and news from Jason Ricci. First is from Rick Carver:

Honey,

I will not be able to make it this weekend as I am going back to Kansas to spend some time with my Mom.  This was obviously very devastating news, John-Alex will leave a huge void.  I was talking with the boys about John-Alex's passing, we reflected on the great Blues in the Schools program that he did while they were in middle-school.  At the time, both boys were taking classical guitar lessons in school, John-Alex was very gracious on spending extra time with them giving pointers on playing different styles of guitar.  That is just a small snap-shot of what John-Alex was all about.  It was a great pleasure getting to know him. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.  Appreciate all that you are doing to make this a fitting tribute that will include many of his musician friends and those who had the pleasure of enjoying John-Alex the short time he was with us.

These things are never fair, this year has been a tough one.

Hugs,

And this from Jason’s FaceBook page:
