This week, as Boulder welcomes the students back with all their youthful energy, we have some returning energy of our own. After a long absence, David Booker is back tonight! Should be fun.
Tomorrow night is a first of sorts. Ricardo Pena has graced our stage many a time with the Lionel Young Band, but tomorrow night it’s the Ricardo Pena Blues Band. I’ve not heard his band before, so I’m looking forward to it. Plus, I haven’t seen Ricardo much since our Memphis days...and I understand his girlfriend, the Lovely Rose, will also be in attendance, and I haven’t seen her since Memphis, so I’m looking forward to catching up with her and reliving our fun times together at the IBC.
Saturday night, the always popular My Beloved Delta Sonics are back and I’ll be there, as usual.
Next Tuesday, the 23rd is the Gretchen Troop Jam and we have some very special guests that night: the Blues Music Award winning Mike Zito Band will be in the hotel with the night off, and Mike is looking forward to being on our stage again after more than a year’s absence. Welcome home, Mike! We’ve missed you.
Next week, on the 24th, Cassie Taylor returns with her band for a CD Release Party! She hasn’t played the Outlook in a very long time, so come early if you want a seat. She always draws a good crowd, and her performances are wonderful, with a lot of her great humor. She even tells a few good stories about her dad, what’s-his-name. Otis, I think.

Before I go, I’d like to talk about Bill Sheffield. He played last Saturday night with Bill Shannon on bass and Peter Gregory on drums. His voice simply must be heard. Beautiful and haunting, he takes his audience all over the emotional spectrum, playing an acoustic guitar as he was born with it in his hands. We’ll have him back for sure. Here’s what one regular said:
Dear Honey,
Once again, last nights performance by Bill Sheffield was another outstanding night at Blues and Greens. Bill's voice alone could carry a show. His choice of bass and drummer could not have been any better. Everyone I talked with agreed. The level of talent that you and Dan have brought to the Blues and Greens this past spring and
summer thus far has hit an all-time high. I am looking forward of being part of music history being made at the Blues and Greens. Thank you Honey and Dan for your commitment to provide top notch quality music. ~a grateful customer~
It was one of those nights. Believe me, I’ll be promoting him from every rooftop when next we book him. He’s a treasure.
Well, this is an unusually busy week, so I’m keeping it short. Before I go, mark your calendars for next Thursday, the 25th for Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers. They tore it up in Greeley, and these young guys bring some tremendous energy to every performance. We’ll all be exhausted by the end.
