HOWDY, JUNE!
I look outside, and what do I see? SUN! For some reason, I think the sun was annoyed with May, as it kept refusing to come out and play. Clearly it holds June in higher regard
Tonight the Maynard Mills Band returns, and many of us think Maynard is one of the area’s wonderful unsung talents. Come out and find out why. You won’t be disappointed. Tomorrow night Denver’s Easy Bill and the Big Beat are bringing their groove, so dancing is a must. Tomorrow is also the 30th birthday of the Outlook’s Jennifer Eaves, so come early and have a happy hour drink with our special girl! I’ll be there to remind her of how young she is. Happy Birthday Jen! I love you!
My Beloved Delta Sonics are on Saturday night, and we know how they always pack the room, so come early for a seat. Speaking of them, I have a special announcement to make.In light of a schedule change, Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin, Prodigal Son of the Outlook will be coming to town on Friday, July 1st! One night only! Tickets ($10) will be on sale next week, and he will of course be backed by the Delta Sonics. I have more announcements regarding that weekend, but you’ll have to wait until next week. However, if you truly love the Blues, mark off your calendars for the entire weekend. You’ll thank me later.
Speaking of calendars, mark off June 18th. It’s a special evening, opening with the Young Blood Blues Band at 6:30, followed by the Velvet Voiced Vixens, a special celebration of the female voice featuring, Tempa Singer, Gretchen Troop, Jill Watkins, and Chicago’s Delores Scott. I’m privy to what they’re doing, and this show is NOT TO BE MISSED! They are also introducing the young Ms. Emma Henry to the Outlook, and I’ve heard this young ‘un is yet another voice to secure the future of the Blues. This is also a fund-raiser for the Colorado Blues Society’s Blues in the School, and at only $5, how can you go wrong? I’ll be giving you more information in next week’s Blues Letter, but for now, call your friends and make a date.

That’s a lot of great Blues! And now I leave you this week with a blurb from Bob Corritore’s weekly publication. Bob Margolin recently told me about this upcoming record from Diunna Greenleaf, and he says it’s a “masterpiece.” Apparently Bob Corritore agrees.
Given this double dose of wonderful advance reviews, I’m feeling a CD Release Party coming on. I haven’t seen Diunna in two years, so it’s time, people, it’s time. I’ll keep you posted.
